"Great location very near to the Christmas markets and upmarket shops and restaurants. Parking was not included and was expensive (40 euro a day), it took some time to find a space we could park in though it was a busy time. Hotel has a spa / pool in the basement which was viewable from street level if someone made the effort to. Kids liked playing in the pool (there were no restrictions when this could be used by children which some places do have). Water didn’t seem very hot to me but I like...

"This hostel is right next to the train station so it’s very convenient for travel. The area is a little chaotic but very typical for areas around train stations. The room was clean, the beds were comfy, and the facilities were decent. Was able to utilize the laundry room and the bar area. The bathroom was super tiny and smelled a bit like sewage but totally fine for a night or two. There is a popular shopping area nearby and we were able to visit the Christmas markets. "

"Four days of pure luxury. We upgraded to the Europa suite and it was the most magical venue for Christmas. We enjoyed a magnificent Christmas lunch, delicious breakfasts and wonderful room service meals. The staff were absolutely phenomenal. We really don’t have enough superlatives for our stay at the Fontenay. Worth every penny! "

"I found this hotel last year, on my first trip to Hamburg. The staff is lovely and the hotel beautiful. I love how simple it is. The beds are super comfy too. The train into the city is just outside the door, but honestly it’s about a 20 minute walk to the city center and a safe walk at that. They have always been accommodating and helpful, even had my room ready early. Thanks for a wonderful stay!"
