"The hotel needs to update its facilities because it is already too old. It does not live up to it’s 4-star hotel status. We booked it hoping that we will have a wonderful experience in a 4-star hotel, but we were very disappointed with the quality of room we had. They need to upgrade the hotel and compete with other 4-star hotels in the city."

Greenhost Boutique Hotel

4.0 star property
8.8 out of 10, Excellent, (112)
"This hotel is fantastic. The facilities are amazing - great bar/restaurant, breakfast top notch, friendly staff, on site gym and spa (had massages on two consecutive days because it was so good!), pool… love the decor and the atmosphere because it’s so green and verdant… feels like an indoor jungle. The whole hotel feels like a spa. Somehow bug-free despite being full of plants. We splashed out on a suite (still very affordable) and it was worth every penny. Having a bath was so nice and the...

The Atrium Hotel and Resort Yogyakarta

4.0 star property
8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (30)
"The hotel itself was great. The rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast buffet was fantastic - so many options. The location was a bit far from the centre and the neighbourhood was not great. There were some warungs across the street, but not walking distance to restaurants. Grabs and Gojeks were easy, so not too big an issue. "

THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu

4.0 star property
8.4 out of 10, Very Good, (95)
"Stayed for three nights, had an absolutely wonderful time. Highlights were the gorgeous pool (just the right temperature, every other pool we’ve had in Indonesia has been way too hot!), the friendly staff, and the enormous breakfast buffet — if you’re hesitating about paying the extra for the free breakfast, it’s absolutely worth it, and it’s a little different every day. There was some construction going on and we had a city view room which would have looked out onto it, so they were kind...

Batik (Javanese pronunciation: [ˈbateʔ]; Indonesian: [ˈbatɪk]) is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting (IPA: [ʈ͡ʂantiŋ], also spelled tjanting), or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap (IPA: [ʈ͡ʂap], also spelled tjap). The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colors are desired.

A tradition of making batik is found in various countries, including Nigeria, China, India, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka; the batik of Indonesia, however, is the most well-known. Indonesian batik made in the island of Java has a long history of acculturation, with diverse patterns influenced by a variety of cultures, and is the most developed in terms of pattern, technique, and the quality of workmanship. On October 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

These batik clothes are sold at one of the high end hotel's gift shop in Yogyakarta. They are hand drawn and painted and hence command a high price! It ranges over US$200 although some cheap batik at the market can be found for a mere US$2. The difference lies in the quality, the design and also the amount of skill that's needed to make them.

Common batik wear are made from cotton. The ones shown here are silk and limited in quantity produced.

Yogyakarta and Surakata (Solo) are two cities where batik originated in Indonesia.
