"Our stay was very enjoyable. The property is very unique and picturesque. The small cottages with a couple rooms each are very quiet. The grounds are very old and beautiful. They are cobble stone and so not ideal if you have mobility issues. Food and drinks at the restaurant were excellent and breakfast had a good variety. "

"Hotel do Canal is our favorite hotel in Faial. The staff are warm and friendly. The accommodations are nice and spacious. It is pretty handicap accessible and offers onsite gym, tours, multi-lingual staff, and delightful restaurant! We had dinner to which no detail had been overlooked and a great wine list was available. We also always enjoy a delightful breakfast with local offerings and general European cuisine. We already look forward to our return!"

"Kind people operating it. The property has a great view to the Pico Mountain, there are multiple houses lined up on a small street. It's a very peaceful vibe. It's within walking distance (an a beautiful walk - nice village with flowers, and fruits) to a cafe/bakery, a couple of restaurants, and a nice natural pool for swimming."

"I was charged to my credit card $289.65 with no receipt to show what I was paying for. I emailed them and they told me it was for consumption. I didn't order any food because they had free breakfast. These people are cheating the clients. Expedia should take them off their website as one of the properties to stay at. "The air was very damp and smelled like mold. There was indeed some black mold on the shower curtain and on the window curtain. Everything felt slightly damp in the room including our pillows. It was therefore extremely uncomfortable and hard to sleep. We woke up in the morning feeling nausea presumably because of the disgusting air. Just south of Madalena on Pico Island is the Criação Velha wine region. We turned off the main road onto a narrow road with dry basalt stone walls guarding vines on either side. It led out to the coastline where old lava patches meet the ocean and overlook Faial Island. The late afternoon sun rays made the landscape glisten and I had a strong urge to work on a (my own?!) vineyard here some day. Similar to a few other areas of the island, the land is divided up into small rectangular plots by piles of volcanic rock (basalt). It's a centuries-old practice to protect the vines from the strong ocean winds and salt water spray as well as warm the grapes. Vineyards literally #InStone . #volcanic #PicoIsland #Azores #vineyards
