"Very spacious and comfortable room. Clean and plenty of towels in a large well equipped bathroom. The only drawback was a very noisy extractor fan. Everything else was exemplary. "

"Lovely stay as always, but the new electronic system needs looking at, paying for your food before it arrives at your table isn't the best way to go, especially if the food turns out to not be right. Also the doors in the public areas need a good wash down and painting, breeding ground for germs"

"We got a triple room that was clean and was quiet. The mattresses are maybe due for renewal, springs were a bit noisy and mattress was thin, But still managed to sleep so no major dramas. The full English breakfast was absolutely stunning. Worth noting that the bar is not available out of hours. "

"Basic but functional. Looking rather tired. What I found irksome was a £20 penalty charge for early check in at 1.30pm, even though rooms were available! So I filled up with fuel and had a coffee until after 3pm when there is no charge."

"Great comfortable dog friendly hotel in Reading with free Parking. We were given a larger room at no extra cost, when they saw our dog. Nice friendly staff. A little bit of dust round the lights etc, but certainly nothing that would put me off staying again."

"Very convenient location and parking. Lovely area in central Newbury which is pedestrianised during the day. Nice hotel rooms sympathetically modernised with character. Staff very very helpful. Only negative was noise after 10 pm of customers in the outside area. They weren’t being rowdy but the sound carried enough to keep us awake. "

"We had a very nicely renovated large room on the second floor of the main building, looking out onto the pedestrian High Street. A little noise from the party-goers, but got to sleep fine. Buffet breakfast was plentiful but nothing special, ie bacon overdone, cheap sausages and weak filtered coffee but nice croissant and pastries."

"Beautiful old building decor a bit tired. Plugged my phone charger in and socket hung off the wall. Mat with rolled up edges in the room by the bed . Constant trip hazard"

"Staff and management went the extra mile to assist us and make us feel welcome! Special mention of thanks to Rupa our hostess that gave us excellent service, nothing was too much trouble for her.. definitely an asset to the team Mercure will definitely be seeing us in the near future. Highly recommend this Hotel to everyone"
