Fajão, one of the ten parishes of the municipality of Pampilhosa da Serra, is situated in a kind of shell surrounded by mountains, on the left the cliffs of Penalva and the Cabeço da Mata, to the right the Serra da Rocha, to the rear the Serra da Amarela and opposite the Onion Picoto. Its situation on the edge of a road that connects Beira Baixa with the other Beiras, made it a mandatory center of passage for the almocreves and other visitors who had to pass there. Village of great traditions, its essence is the shale with which most of its dwellings are built.
